I purchased a used Apple 2007 MacBook Model A1181 13.3″ screen. I love it. It worked flawlessly, It was my first Mac, and I enjoyed so many new things as I learned to migrate from PC to Apple. I will never want anything but an Apple from here on out. Last month as I was jamming out by my pool, that I love to do. I placed my trusty Mac on the table with an Umbrella as I always do, when my dog managed to knock over the table and Umbrella AND my Mac, all of which came plunging to join me in the pool. I acted as fast as possible, as my Mac sunk like an anchor to the bottom. I grabbed it, got out of the pool as quickly as the Mac went in, grabbing my towel and dried it off as fast as possible. I have always had a clear speck hard plastic case around my beautiful Mac, and a Zagg screen protector, hoping maybe I can save this baby. I have been in the electronics business for decades, and did what I knew to do. I used my hair dryer to evaporate the water asap, and then placed it on a stool and allowed a electric fan to blow on it for 30 days!! LOL

I hate to report that after the 30 day waiting period, I prayed, as I turned the Mac on for the first time and can now Officially announce, it was no match for it's adventure at SEA WORLD.

However, here comes the happy ending. As I pondered the rest of the day, I then, “as I slapped myself”, remembered I had purchased SQUARETRADE WARRANTY>>>YIPPY! I had forgot I purchased my Square Trade Warranty when I purchased another item and added the 3 other items too it. Thankfully, I opted to purchase the Accident Policy. I am now going to process my claim and I will amend to this review, the outcome of my first ever claim with them…Keep posted, but definitely by a MacBook or a MacBoo Pro, you'll absolutely love it, and BUY the Squaretrade Warranty with ADH. Let you know how they handle it.

iPad – Macbook?? Macbook won out. Light enough to carry and can run all my research programs and it syncs well with my iMac. Amazon's price beat Apple's. I got the Macbook actually earlier than they said I would. All in all, a very good experience. — Macbook Review

I was a PC user that switched to Mac and I can honestly say that I am not disappointed one bit. I am absolutely thrilled with my macbook. It does all that I want and more. I guess it's true, once you go mac you never go back. — Amazing!

Needless to say this is an amazing computer. I love everything about it. I would have given it 5 stars but this is the second computer I recieved through amazon. The charger on the first one they sent me wasnt working so I had to send it back. I also had my second order cancelled for no reason through amazon, but they worked it out..my only dissapointment was not getting the item on time (since they had to send a second one) and they didnt give me credit for shopping. — Great!!

As a student, I've been trying to find a well-built computer for under $1000. For me, the MacBook is a perfect fit.

Pros:

-The touchpad is incredible for web browsing. I have been using PCs notebooks for years, and I have never liked touchpads, but this has proved to be an exception. I can easily do two-button clicking, scrolling with two fingers, and going back and forth through pages with three fingers. I find I no longer do I have to lug around a USB mouse (except if I want to some gaming).

-The computer starts up in 20 seconds without having to wait for background processes to load up (unlike windows).

-The build quality of the MacBook is unmatched for its price. The unibody does not creak at all when handling it.

-Multi-tasking is surprisingly good for only 2GB RAM. The only hiccups I have had were at the first couple of seconds of playing movies on iTunes with a lot of other programs running.

Cons:

-No HDMI port

-Battery does not last 10 hours (about 4-6 for me with iTunes and Wi-Fi running). Still, it is much longer than the competitors for the price range and size.

Even though the build is solid, you may want to get one of these covers if you worry about scratching:

They snap on in seconds and look great.

If you are a student who is not looking to do any graphic design I highly recommend getting the MacBook instead of the MacBook Pro if you want to save money. Sure it only has 2 GB RAM, but you can easily upgrade it now for $100 Crucial CT2KIT25664BC1067 4GB 204-PIN PC3-8500 SODIMM DDR3 Memory KIT (2GBx2) or wait a year and do it for about $50. — Form and Function

The thin-and-light portable PC is powered by up to a 2010 Intel Core i5-450M (2 cores/4 threads, 32nm) central processing unit with a clock frequency of 2.4GHz (max. 2.66GHz with Turbo Boost Technology), 3MB of cache and 35W Max TDP. Moreover, the new ProBook has a LED-backlit HD BrightView or Anti-Glare widescreen with a diagonal of 13.3 inches (33.7cm). This display supports High-Def 720p content.

The business notebook houses one SODIMM slot and comes with up to 4GB of 1333MHz DDR3 memory. The storage capacity is 250- to 500GB in form of a mechanical hard drive (HDD) that rotates at 7200 rounds per minute. Graphics are taken care by an integrated Intel GMA HD with shared VRAM.

Connectivity

Customers can stay connected thanks to the built-in Realtek Ethernet LAN, Broadcom 802.11 a/b/g/n adapter, an optional Bluetooth 2.1+EDR module and an HP Mobile Broadband with GPS, which is reportedly powered by Gobi (also an option). In addition, the 5320m packs three USB 2.0 ports, a VGA output and one RJ-45 port. An integrated 2MP web camera with fixed-focused lens is also available for video conferencing.

Other specs and Pricing

HP’s new ultra-slim ProBook will come with a pre-installed copy of up to a Windows 7 Professional 64bit operating system. Weight starts at 1.72kg (3.79lbs) with the primary 4-cell high-capacity Li-ion battery (up to 6.5 hours on single charge). Users can purchase the 5320m with a 6-cell battery (up to 10 hours runtime) as well.

Further features include a spill-resistant keyboard, multi-gesture touchpad, Lock Slot and Face-Recognition for enhanced security. The HP ProBook 5320m is reportedly priced at 599 Euro (US $739).

I’ll be brief.
The screen is nice and bright, but for some people 1440×900 is not enough for a 17″ screen. It wasn’t a concern of mine, and the screen looks great.
The bronze looks nice for the first few months, but since it’s just painted on and not part of the plastic or anything, like with an Asus or something like that, it begins to wear off.
The keyboard is difficult to see in some lighting conditions; the white paint blends into the bronze color (which looks grey most of the time, by the way).
The mousepad doesn’t have the right amount of friction since it’s just shiny plastic/metal. It gets better with use as finger oils make it more slippery, but the oils show up clearly on the mousepad and the plastic wrist rests.
The support was very good, but I needed it more than I should have. The power cord leads going from the cable to the metal part that goes inside the line-in port break easily with cable flex, requiring replacement of the cable. This has been necessary twice so far, in less than a year of ownership.
The speakers are very good, as is the webcam. They are loud and they sound great for laptop speakers.
Battery life started around 1:40, battery deteriorated over time and now lasts about 1:20 on power saving mode.
Blu-ray works well but the built-in software doesn’t work with many discs that have advanced features. I tried every leading Blu-ray software player and found that ArcSoft TotalMedia Theater works the best with this drive, so that’s what I would suggest.
Processor is fast enough and responds quickly but generates too much heat and noise, as is a common problem I’ve had with AMD processors.
Video card is good enough for casual gaming; games like Half-Life 2 can be played fluidly on high settings, and new games like Just Cause 2 can be played okay on lower settings.

After owning 3 different kinds of laptop computers over the last 8 years I have to say that the most aggravating part of owning one is the battery and battery charging system. One of them has gone through 3 batteries so far. Another one, the jack inside the laptop where the power supply connects to is intermittent. It is intermittent to the point of not being able to be used to charge the battery unless the cord is held in place by hand. I wish there was a better way to handle battery charging.

After a frustrating morning of holding a cable in place to charge a laptop up while trying to type – I gave up for the day with that laptop. I then did a search for an external laptop battery charger on the web. I figured that there must be something out there by now. Here is what I found:

There are a few companies that make external laptop battery chargers. These are the types of chargers that you take the battery out of your laptop and connect it to a charger without using your laptop computer at all to charge the battery. This is the type of thing I was looking for. The prices range from several hundreds of dollars to under $70. I did a search on buy.com and shopping.com but did not find a really good price, even eBay had some pricey chargers. The best price I found was from one of the manufacturers themselves at jcbarn.com They had the battery charger at a price that I found reasonable at $65 They have a very wide range of external battery chargers for all different brands of laptop computers.

What I plan on doing is going completely wireless with my laptops. I'll buy another battery for each of them and external battery chargers to match. That way I'll be using a battery while one is charging then I can swap them out as needed. I sincerely hope that it will solve my laptop battery problems.

I believe xp does not support SATA automatically. This is probably what is happening. Download and install nlite to help you slipstream the SATA/RAID drivers you need. If your laptop doesn’t have a SATA hard drive, then I don’t know what else it could be.

Whether you want a compact, sleek portfolio style case for your laptop, or a full blown ‘Office in a Bag’ rolling laptop suitcase, you will want to carefully select the case that is right for you. For example, my first laptop case cost over $100 – and didn’t fit my Widescreen HP Laptop! Wasted time, effort and money! My second rolling case…well, let’s just say that one didn’t work out either. After loading up my laptop and all its many accessories, including my Canon i90 printer, I couldn’t even close it all the way, and when I finally got it closed, it was so unwieldy and the handle so short that I looked like a bumbling Hunchback of Notre Dame tripping my way through the airport!

So, what DO you look for in a laptop case? You need to know how big your laptop is, how wide is the screen and also how deep (thick) it is, what accessories you are likely to carry (i.e., Printer, digital camera, power adapter set, scanner stick, etc.), and, most importantly, your comfort level – do you need a rolling cart or would a backpack style laptop case work best for your needs?

Busy, mobile executives may need a larger rolling case, capable of carrying all their paraphernalia for a 3 day business trip across the ocean, while the active college student might want to jam her notebook in a backpack along with her textbooks and race across campus, trying to beat the bell.

My preference is a rolling suitcase type laptop bag. Several large and well-known companies make excellent and value priced cases. Do a little research through ebags.com, consumerreports.com, targus.com and even check out the office supply store websites. I ran into a terrific special on the case I had pretty much decided on at staples.com.

I chose a Targus TCG717, Rolling Travel Notebook Case. I can not only safely tuck my widescreen laptop and its assorted accessories, including portable printer and file folders in the 717, I can even throw a couple of changes of clothes in! “We know we have a lot of kids and people that come around us, and the right thing to do is not have that type of language,” Drew said. “We don't want a 7-year-old coming to our practice and going home and telling mom and dad something they picked up. So we try to be good role models, good examples.” he said.

Baylor guard LaceDarius Dunn said the rule wasn't an adjustment for him or his teammates.

“I never did cuss much anyway,” he said.

Duke doesn't have a no-cuss rule.

“We show our emotions every single day,” said Duke senior center Brian Zoubek. “We feel that's an important part. Not that cursing's an important part, but sometimes that just comes along with it when you're playing as hard as you are.”

BAYLOR MISSED ON WALL: Although Baylor is concentrating on its own team right now, Drew said he can't help but notice the success Raleigh's John Wall has had this season as Kentucky's point guard.

“You'll see him, if you're watching SportsCenter,” Drew said.

Baylor was one of the finalists for Wall and hired his D-One Sports club team coach, Dwon Clifton, who's the team's coordinator of basketball operations.

“He's had a tremendous year,” Drew said. “I'm very, very pleased for his production this year and wish him the best of luck. Unless we play him, if we would be fortunate enough to.”

VOLS BOUNCE BACK: Tennessee's recovery from off-court problems to get to the regional final is remarkable.

In early January, four players, including starting senior forward Tyler Smith, were suspended indefinitely after being charged with gun possession and other counts after a traffic stop.

Smith was dismissed from the team. Melvin Goins, Cameron Tatum and Brian Williams later were reinstated.

But the Volunteers were without all four during wins over Charlotte, Kansas, Auburn and Mississippi.

“In a lot of ways it sent a message that, you know, no one player or two players or three players or five players is more important than the whole team,” Pearl said.

IT'S NOT THE SHOES: Somebody told Michigan State coach Tom Izzo on Saturday that there's a theory that the Spartans' injuries are the result of shoes that are too light.

Guard Kalin Lucas is out for the season with a torn Achilles' tendon, and forward Delvon Roe has been battling a knee injury.

“I don't think that has anything to do with it,” Izzo said. “In Kalin's injury, it was just a freak thing.

“And, you know, I think for the most part, you know, we haven't had a ton of injuries. I mean, Delvon's has kind of been ongoing a little bit, just because he's tough enough to play through it. And most of these other guys, I look down, ( Raymar Morgan's) broken nose and pneumonia, I can't blame the shoes for that, that's for sure.”

Before you do anything you have to write down your lists of needs and wants and yes, there is a difference between them. Some things to consider are: what classes will you be taking, with you be doing any technical drawing or CAD applications, will you have access to WiFi, is it mainly going to be used for word processing and do you need to invest in something with a larger than normal screen? We spent a lot of time going over laptop options and made more than a few visits to local office supply and computer stores. Unless you take a notebook with you and write down your personal take on each of them, you are going to get thoroughly confused in the process. Don't be swayed by slick talking sales clerks or lured in my a low price that is only attainable with rebates. Go in with a budget and stick to it.

What do you need to know when shopping for a laptop?

Never bank on getting rebates. They can get lost in the mail, denied for a variety of reasons, take forever to process, not be applicable to the model you purchased, be declined by the manufacturer, be expired. Another thing to keep in mind is if you have a problem with your laptop and need to return it, if you removed the UPC codes you may not be able to make an exchange or return and some stores will subject you to a 10 – 20% restocking fee regardless of the reason.

Consider getting insurance. If you still live with your parents you can ask them about having the laptop insured on their home owners policy. In most States this will only cover theft and you will need to fill out a police report and wait for a claim.

Buy accessories now instead of later. If you think you are going to need an external hard drive, mouse, keyboard or USB drive, get them now when they are on sale rather than later. You might even be able to get one or two of those items for free if you shop around for stores offering in store specials.

Go for function over looks. You might see a great looking laptop that knocks your socks off but looks are not everything. Look at the specs on it, use some of the programs and see if it is going to be something that helps you at school or becomes a burden to use.

You might not know every single class you are taking but it is a safe bet that you will need to have a laptop that can do word processing, printing and spreadsheets. That's all packaged in the software and almost every single laptop that we looked at came with Windows Vista Home Premium although some of them did give you the option to buy the Student version for about a hundred dollars extra.

When shopping for a laptop don't settle for the first thing you see with a low price; if you have to go out and buy add on components for it later in the school year, any saving that you may have made on the initial purchase just went out the window. Think, research and shop around for the best deal possible!
