I purchased a used Apple 2007 MacBook Model A1181 13.3″ screen. I love it. It worked flawlessly, It was my first Mac, and I enjoyed so many new things as I learned to migrate from PC to Apple. I will never want anything but an Apple from here on out. Last month as I was jamming out by my pool, that I love to do. I placed my trusty Mac on the table with an Umbrella as I always do, when my dog managed to knock over the table and Umbrella AND my Mac, all of which came plunging to join me in the pool. I acted as fast as possible, as my Mac sunk like an anchor to the bottom. I grabbed it, got out of the pool as quickly as the Mac went in, grabbing my towel and dried it off as fast as possible. I have always had a clear speck hard plastic case around my beautiful Mac, and a Zagg screen protector, hoping maybe I can save this baby. I have been in the electronics business for decades, and did what I knew to do. I used my hair dryer to evaporate the water asap, and then placed it on a stool and allowed a electric fan to blow on it for 30 days!! LOL

I hate to report that after the 30 day waiting period, I prayed, as I turned the Mac on for the first time and can now Officially announce, it was no match for it's adventure at SEA WORLD.

However, here comes the happy ending. As I pondered the rest of the day, I then, “as I slapped myself”, remembered I had purchased SQUARETRADE WARRANTY>>>YIPPY! I had forgot I purchased my Square Trade Warranty when I purchased another item and added the 3 other items too it. Thankfully, I opted to purchase the Accident Policy. I am now going to process my claim and I will amend to this review, the outcome of my first ever claim with them…Keep posted, but definitely by a MacBook or a MacBoo Pro, you'll absolutely love it, and BUY the Squaretrade Warranty with ADH. Let you know how they handle it.

Thanks,

iPad – Macbook?? Macbook won out. Light enough to carry and can run all my research programs and it syncs well with my iMac. Amazon's price beat Apple's. I got the Macbook actually earlier than they said I would. All in all, a very good experience. — Macbook Review

I was a PC user that switched to Mac and I can honestly say that I am not disappointed one bit. I am absolutely thrilled with my macbook. It does all that I want and more. I guess it's true, once you go mac you never go back. — Amazing!

Needless to say this is an amazing computer. I love everything about it. I would have given it 5 stars but this is the second computer I recieved through amazon. The charger on the first one they sent me wasnt working so I had to send it back. I also had my second order cancelled for no reason through amazon, but they worked it out..my only dissapointment was not getting the item on time (since they had to send a second one) and they didnt give me credit for shopping. — Great!!

As a student, I've been trying to find a well-built computer for under $1000. For me, the MacBook is a perfect fit.

Pros:

-The touchpad is incredible for web browsing. I have been using PCs notebooks for years, and I have never liked touchpads, but this has proved to be an exception. I can easily do two-button clicking, scrolling with two fingers, and going back and forth through pages with three fingers. I find I no longer do I have to lug around a USB mouse (except if I want to some gaming).

-The computer starts up in 20 seconds without having to wait for background processes to load up (unlike windows).

-The build quality of the MacBook is unmatched for its price. The unibody does not creak at all when handling it.

-Multi-tasking is surprisingly good for only 2GB RAM. The only hiccups I have had were at the first couple of seconds of playing movies on iTunes with a lot of other programs running.

Cons:

-No HDMI port

-Battery does not last 10 hours (about 4-6 for me with iTunes and Wi-Fi running). Still, it is much longer than the competitors for the price range and size.

Even though the build is solid, you may want to get one of these covers if you worry about scratching:

Speck Products See Thru Satin, Soft Touch Hard Shell Case, for 13-inch MacBook Aluminum Unibody/Black Keyboard (Black) – DOES NOT FIT WHITE MACBOOK

They snap on in seconds and look great.

If you are a student who is not looking to do any graphic design I highly recommend getting the MacBook instead of the MacBook Pro if you want to save money. Sure it only has 2 GB RAM, but you can easily upgrade it now for $100 Crucial CT2KIT25664BC1067 4GB 204-PIN PC3-8500 SODIMM DDR3 Memory KIT (2GBx2) or wait a year and do it for about $50. — Form and Function

If you are a student who is not looking to do any graphic design I highly recommend getting the MacBook instead of the MacBook Pro if you want to save money.
Few things to try

Try entering safemode – usually tapping the f5 key when starting up – then select safemode –
if this works and you get a display – go into the device manager (press the windows icon button plus the pause break key – then select hardware > device manager)
click on the plus next to the display adaptors – highlight your display adaptor then right click on it and uninstall)
restart your conputer and see if this helps

if you enter safemode and the display switches off – try entering the bios – when you get the splash screen it should tell you which key to press (enter setup)
does your screen go blank in this – if so you have a hardware problem -

if you can check your setting within the bios – load the optimised defaults or defaults and try again

give this a go and good luck

PS – also try a ATX reset -
remove your battery and the power cable from your laptop
press and hold the power button in for about 30 seconds – this will remove any static build up on the MOBO
Power back on and see if this works

start the laptop without the battery. If this doesn’t work, i fear the internal power module is defective. This is mostly the reason if the monitor doesn’t switch on.

How old is the laptop? Based on my experience, notebooks/laptops start to have display problem as they ‘grow older’

Maybe the display cables are loosen or the LCD died. Try calling the BenQ support about this

In Depth Product Review of the Acer Aspire 5100 PC Notebook notebook computer reviews from brands Acer, Apple, Asus, Atec, Axioo, BenQ, Compaq, DELL, Fujitsu, Hp, Kohjinsha, Lenovo, MSI, NEC, Sony, SVOA, Toshiba, The Acer Ferrari 4005 WLMi is 15.4-inch screen AMD Turion powered notebook with an ATI I am beginning to really like these high contrast coatings for my home computer.

I’m writing this right now on an acer notebook computer. It’s ten-fifteen p.m., the screen is dim, and I have no problem discovering the keys. I’ve six different programs running, the batter is nice and cool, and I honestly couldn’t be happier with the item I recently purchased.

I’m no techno-geek, but I know great high quality when I see it – or use it, as the case might be – which is why I’ve now purchased two acer laptop computer computer for house use. I appear more in the variety of reliability instead of fanciness. I don’t require gadgets that are inscrutable, possessed of all the bells and whistles, which invariably make them more hard to use. I want something that turns on when I want it to turn on, has a dependable wireless connection, doesn’t overheat, and can run multiple programs without crapping out on me. I had an acer laptop computer pc before that was able to match all of that and much more. I have one now simply because, as I mentioned, I know high quality when I see it.

That isn’t to say that the acer notebook computer may be the only one available with purchasing. Some of the functions that I prefer, such as long battery life or a nice, large keyboard, might not be as essential to others. Other functions that I do not especially need – a best from the line graphics card, for 1 – are the very first thing that individuals with different needs look for.

That said, Acer is just like any other organization within the laptop computer marketplace in that they make products designed to fit all, or a minimum of most, needs. For several hundred much more dollars than what I spent I could have gotten a bigger screen, a much better operating program, a quicker graphics card or more USB slots. When it comes to picking out any notebook computer, not just an acer notebook pc, the first and most essential step is to identify what your needs are.

In the “About” section on Acer.com, you can learn about the organization:

Founded in 1976, Acer ranks among the world’s top five branded Computer vendors. In 2000, Acer spun-off its manufacturing operation to focus its resources on developing technologically advanced, user-friendly options. The decision to support the sales of its item lines via specific marketing activities that best utilise distribution channels, has allowed Acer to achieve excellent outcomes worldwide.

Acer’s product range includes Pc notebooks and Desktops, servers and storage systems, monitors, peripheral devices, digital devices, LCD TVs and e-business options for company, Government, Education and house users. Acer employs 5,400 people throughout the globe and has created a consolidated sales and service network in much more than 100 countries. Revenues reached US $11.32 billion in 2006.

The Toshiba A305D-S6835 is a high end yet affordable notebook. Having those two qualities it's no surprise that it is one of the best selling notebooks currently on the market. I have gotten my hands on one of these and I'm going to let you know what it is capable of and who will get the most out of purchasing one of these. First let me get started with a few of its stats.

Hardware

Imaging: Webcam integrated into face

Processor: 2.2 GHz 64-bit dual-core AMD Turion

Storage Space: 320 GB hard drive

RAM: 3GB (Expandable to a 4GB maximum)

Optical Drive: CD R RW with an integrated dual-layer DVD +/- R RW burner

Graphics Accelerator: ATI Radeon X1250 graphics (uses up to 831 MB of dedicated and shared memory)

Demensions and weight: 14.3″ x 10.5″ x 1.5″ and weighs 6lbs

This notebook has a powerful 2.2 GHz 64bit AMD processor as its powerhouse. I love this chip; it is remarkably powerful and sips energy. The small size and relatively light frame at 6lbs makes this Toshiba a mobile monster. The ATI manufactured video card is very capable for the gamer as well as the multimedia professional.

The first thing you notice as this sits on the shelf is the beautiful 15.4″ TruBrite screen operating at 1280 x 800 (producing a 720p HD resolution for those familiar with HD televisions). If you haven't seen these Toshiba satellite screens in person you really should run down to your local electronics retailer and check them out, they're on par with Apple and Sony as far as quality (even though the resolution isn't tremendously high).

Connectivity

Integrated Wireless (so you can connect to wireless LAN's)

1 Ethernet Port (so you can connect to a wired network)

4 2.0 USB ports (this is used to connect your laptop to printers, digital cameras, and mp3 players)

1 FireWire port (this port is used for high speed data transfer between other PC's and digital camcorders)

1 ExpressCard port (where you can insert a cellular modem or Bluetooth adapter)

1 VGA out (a typical monitor connection)

1 S-Video out (usually for connecting to a projector or compatible television)

1 audio out / 1 mic in

1 digital audio out

1 56K modem input (so you can dialup)

5 in 1 memory card reader (you can use this to directly insert the memory from you mobile devices)

As far as connectivity this is fairly standard. The only thing my A305D-S6835 is missing is a Bluetooth adapter. These are typically integrated with most higher-end models and I'm surprised I don't see one here. I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of HD output either although it would purely be a bonus.

The price on this notebook is currently just shy of $1000. This is a great price for a versatile, highly mobile notebook. I would expect to see this notebook drop this summer or as late as the fall when the computer buying season hits (coinciding with the start of school). This would be great for most computer users, including students and professionals.

HP has just released their latest notebook and we heard about this two weeks ago. It's the ProBook 4425s with AMD CPU options. This business notebook features a 14-inch LED-backlit display with a 1,366 x 768 resolution and it's highly customizable if you're going to buy it in the US. You can get dual / quad-core AMD CPUs along with up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, a DVD writer, up to a 500GB HDD, ATI Radeon HD 5250 graphics, and a bunch of OS options including Windows Vista / 7 and even SUSE Linux Enterprise 11. Check out the notebook on HP's official website here with a base price of $619.

What are your computer woes? Is it so ancient that you can only run Windows 3.1? What about the age old excuse of, “Its just acting slow.”? How about failing hardware? Do you need to upgrade because your computer can not run the latest software? Or is it that your cup-holder is broken again? Any way it goes, you want a new computer, and you want to go mobile like everyone else. This strange world of mobile computers may intimidate you at first but you will soon find that there are few differences in buying a laptop or a desktop. The following are the top 10 question you should ask yourself before researching and buying your new laptop:

10. Your budget is probably the biggest consideration, and can be the deciding factor on what extra options, if any, you will get. After you decide on a budget then look at what laptops can fit your needs and price around. A little phrase to consider is that spending a little extra now will save you a LOT of headaches later. With today’s technology prices putting down a $2000 budget will make you extremely happy and you will probably have money left over. You will also find that the price of a laptop is very close to being the same as a desktop with the same specs when you include an lcd monitor.

9. What are your needs out of a laptop computer? Everybody likes to surf the net, check e-mail, do word processing, and at least the occasional song and picture, and pretty much all new computers can do all that. Some just do it faster than others.

One extra thing you will want to consider is video games. Today’s games can take a serious toll on computers resources in order to perform well. You will need a little extra depending on the game you want. The easiest thing to do is look at the box the game came in, and read the “recommended” requirements. Then base your computer from that. A little faster wouldn’t hurt either.

Video is another heavy option. If you like to store a lot of movies and TV shows you downloaded then you will need a bigger hard drive and a better video card. Everybody has said that they will just put it on disk after they watch it or download it to save space, but you know as well as I do that you don’t want a billion disks to sift through and don’t want to wait on load times. I’ll explore more on storage later.

Do you travel a lot, or in school? This will affect many choices in options with the laptop. In other words: How mobile do you want to be? That brings me to number eight:

8. Size. Wow, there are a lot of different sizes out there! How do you choose? First, if you want to be really mobile then you would probably prefer a smaller screen. This will affect the overall size and weight of the laptop. The screen size will also affect the battery life you will get out of one charge. Usually a 14.1” screen or smaller is consider small. Or, if you are looking for a desktop replacement that you can occasionally take around the house or even less out of the house, then you might consider a bigger screen. These screens put out 17” of video love and most come with those lovely number-pads to the right of the keyboard. A 17” screen compared to a 14.1” screen is obviously heavier and use up more battery life, but you will be plugged in to an outlet almost all the time and what is a pound or two extra. A happy medium is a 15” or a 15.4” if you want a widescreen.

Thickness will also affect the weight of your laptop. Getting an ultra thin laptop is cool. Just remember that with all that breathing room gone your cool laptop can get hot fast.

7. Some people don’t care about what brand they get, and consider that a computer is a computer. While that may be truer with desktops, laptops are a little more crucial about what brand you get. If your happy and satisfied with computer by a certain company, by all means stay with that company, and remove all doubt in your mind that if your computer messes up it wasn’t because you got a different brand. FYI: all brands of all computers have problems, some brands just have more.

This part is a little more difficult to write without being biased, but I will attempt. Take my opinion for what you will, but I have worked with computers for many years and even sold computers at a certain technology store.

That being said, picking a brand of laptop is like picking a brand of automobile. No matter what brand of car you get, you can always get a fast engine under the hood. Some brands of cars are just better built and perform longer because of the quality. Most people would consider an average quality brand of car as being Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Toyota, etc… A better quality car you would probably be Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, etc…Comparatively, average brand of laptop would be Gateway, Dell, HP, Compaq, Acer, e-Machines, and the better side of laptops is Toshiba, Sony, IBM-Lenovo, and Alienware. But remember the better quality comes at a price.

6. The first step in choosing speed is the processor. There are a few factors to consider in a processor. First is, do I want Intel or AMD? At this point in technology Intel has the best processor for a laptop called the Core 2 Duo. It is a little more pricy but from what rumor mills say, I expect it to go down by the end of the year. There is absolutely nothing wrong with an AMD processor, they will soon come out with a competing processor.

Next you will want to consider raw speed. This is usually measured in Gigahertz. (abbreviated GHz) The bigger the number, the faster the processor is. Also, bus speed is very important in speed of a computer. This is probably one of the biggest factors and the most overlooked. Bus speed is how fast the computer’s components can communicate with each other. A lower bus speed will cause a bottleneck in the flow of information and will cause your computer slow down. A low bus speed is the leading cause of slow computers. The easiest way to not get a slow bus speed is choosing the correct model of processor. In the Intel brand a Celeron processor has the lower bus speed and respectively for AMD the Sempron is slower. If you are on a strict budget, you will probably consider going to one of those slower processor models. But, if you must get anything extra, bus speed is the first to consider.

Recently another factor has appeared, Dual-Core. Dual-Core means that the processor has two processing lines, and that means it can now process two things simultaneously, and double the power of the processor without taking up extra power from the battery. Single core processors are being phased out so they are a bit cheaper.

5. The second factor in speed is memory. Memory is a temporary place for your computer to store commonly used data from the hard drive. A lack in memory can severely affect the computer’s speed. Memory is measured in Megabytes (MB) and Gigabytes (GB). As a unit of measure I will inform you that 1 GB = 1000 MB. Today’s recommended amount of memory is at least 1 GB. This is especially recommended if you want to upgrade your Windows from XP to Vista when it comes out. You can get 512 MB and work with Windows XP easily, but never get a computer with only 256 MB unless you plan on upgrading the memory.

4. The hard drive is another speed factor of your computer. How does the storage device affect the speed of the computer? The hard drive is essentially the slowest component in your computer. This is especially apparent in laptops. The hard drive being slow is the whole reason for memory in the first place.

Each hard drive has disks inside that spin at a certain speed. And how fast they spin determines how fast they can access information. Essentially, if you speed up the hard drive, you have sped up the whole computer. There are only a few speeds of hard drives to remember, and hard drive speed is measured in Rotations per Minute (rpm). The speeds are 4200rpm, 5400rpm, 7200rpm, and 10,000rpm. I am not aware of a laptop that has the 10,000rpm hard drive, and the 7200rpm is rare and expensive in laptops. The rpm of the drive is the second thing to consider in speed if your budget allows.

Size of the hard drive does not affect speed much but does play an important part in how many programs, songs, videos, etc you can store on the computer. Like memory the hard drive size is measured in Gigabytes (GB). You may ask, “How do I determine how much space I need?” There is no formula to determine an exact number. You will just have to do a little predicting. Keep in mind that the average song is 4MB, the average picture on a 6 mega pixel camera takes up 4MB, and the average movie is 3 to 4 GB. That is about 250 songs or pictures per GB. If you plan on storing either of these on your computer you will have to allocate that much space on the hard drive, and when your drive is full you will have to delete something to put something else on. You can always burn your media to a CD or DVD to free up space. But, as I said earlier, “Do you really want to go through that?” The average person will not fill up 80GB. Also, if you need extra space you could buy an external hard drive.

3. Do you want to be able to watch a DVD on your laptop, or do you want to go as far as to be able to backup your DVDs to another disk in case they scratched? Most all laptops come with at least a CD writer\DVD reader drive standard. If you want to be able to copy DVDs or make your own, you will have to opt for DVD writer drive.

The drives speeds are measured in “X” otherwise known as times. In other words 1X is real time, (the speed as if you were watching the DVD or listening to the CD.) and 2X is twice as fast as real time. Currently the maximum speed for burning a DVD is 16X and a CD is 52X.

2. The warranty is a very important feature and can be the most expensive option to get. Every laptop should come with 1 year warranty from the manufacturer covering only defective equipment. Every major manufacturer and even the retail stores offer extra protection ranging from extending the manufacturer’s warranty to covering any accidents you may have. Since most defective equipment shows itself after the first year, extending the basic warranty is highly recommended. If you want to cover wear and tear or are clumsy you might want to consider getting the complete coverage warranty, so in case you drop the laptop and the screen cracks it will be fixed free of charge. These repairs can cost more than the laptop. If that is the case, most warranties will just give you a brand new laptop. (Free upgrade!) Before getting any extended warranty review the terms and conditions so you know what they cover and what you will be paying for that coverage. Remember, Insurance is us;ess until you need it. Then it is priceless!

1. Connections can be time and money saver if you have the right ports. USB devices are multiplying rapidly. Printers, mice, flash drives, hard drives, digital cameras, and many other things come with the USB interface. So, make sure you have plenty of USB ports so you don’t have to buy an USB hub.

If you want to hook your laptop to a TV so you can watch a movie or slide show contained on your hard drive you will want an s-video port. If you have a digital camcorder, look to see if it uses USB or Firewire as the computer interface.

For your internet purposes look at the network and modem ports. The modem is a normal looking phone jack. The modem will allow you to use dial-up service. If you have high speed internet you will need a network port. It looks like a wide phone jack. Also becoming standard built in is a wireless network card. This will allow you to log on to a wireless network (when you are in range and if you have one). Home, work, coffee shops, college campuses, and hotels are the most common places to find a wireless network.

I had a little Acer 10.1″ netbook for about 6 months. Loved the portability and long battery life, but the small screen and keyboard were killing me, so I sold it. After doing a lot of research, I settled on this as a replacement. This little beauty is SWEET. The keyboard is springy and responsive, it looks SO classy with the brushed silver exterior, photos look amazing on its screen, and it’s still small and light enough to drop in a backpack. I considered buying an external DVD, but instead, I just shared the DVD tray on my desktop computer and loaded necessary software (Office 2007 Pro and Photoshop Elements 7) that way. Saved a few $$ by not buying that EDVD.

I was a little concerned about the uber-shiny and slippery touch pad, but I’ve had no trouble with it. I took the advice of someone who posted a review and used the little button above the touch pad to disable it before putting the computer to sleep and I haven’t experienced any of the unexpected freezing some other reviews highlight. As others have said, it’s a fingerprint magnet, but, hey…it’s a touch pad.

The left side of the palm rest is a little warmer than the right, but it’s not uncomfortable.

The web-cam powers right up and the images it produces are great. The built-in mic works fine for sitting a comfy distance away.

I charged it up, unplugged it, cranked up the screen brightness, and proceeded to uninstall HP bloatware, install Windows Security Essentials, Office, and PSE 7, watched some CBS videos, watched an hour-long TV show streamed from my desktop PC that I’d recorded via Win Media Center, and still it took over 5 hours to get the battery down to 10%. It took about 3.5 hours to charge it fully again (seemed a little long, but I wasn’t in any hurry) and I’m in the process of draining it for the second time. It ran internet videos very smoothly and just had a couple of hiccups on the video coming over my wireless from my desktop. I built a fairly complex, multi-layer image in Photoshop Elements and it was smooth and fast.

It’s only been a day, but I think I’m going to be VERY glad I made the switch to this machine. I have a couple of HDMI cables on order and can’t wait to try connecting it my HDTV and stream Netflix.

My only negative is the sticker-fest all over the palm rests. They look like they’d peel off easily, but I tried removing one andit was stuck down so tightly I was afraid I’d be left with just a sticky mess behind, so I left the stickers there.

Happy day! Hope this review pushed you over the edge…

If the words “Dell” and “AMD” excite you then lean in, we've got something for you. You won't find it on Dell's US site just yet, but Dell Singapore is showing off its first laptop to feature AMD's new Nile-class of processors. The Inspiron M301z starts at $999 (that's about $715 of the US green stuff) with a 1.3GHz dual-core Athlon II Neo K325 processor (optional 1.5GHz Neo K625), 2GB (up to 4GB supported) of 1,333MHz DDR3 memory and a 320GB hard disk spinning at 7,200RPM, ATi Mobility Radeon HD 4225 integrated graphics, a glossy 13.3-inch WLED display pushing 1,366×768 pixels, and a 6-cell 44WHr battery for up to 5-hours of promised life. It's available for purchase now in Singapore and likely elsewhere just as soon as the sun begins to warm the western world.

AMD was the first major processor manufacturer to come out with consumer manufactured 64 bit processor. These notebooks are highly desirable and have had great reviews and successful sales figures. Now that they've been out for a while we're starting to see some drastic price reductions spurring the market even more. I've been lucky enough to get my hands on one of these notebooks; the 64bit HP Pavilion DV2810US 14.1″ laptop. I'm going to give it a test drive and let you know how it performs for me. First I'll start with some of the basics.

Hardware:

Imaging: A bezel integrated webcam

Processor: a 2.0 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60 dual-core

Storage Space: 250GB hard drive

RAM: 3GB of preinstalled RAM (this can be upgraded to a 4 GB maximum)

Optical Drive: a CD R/RW with integrated LightScribe dual-layer DVD R +/- drive

Graphics Card: A GeForce Go 7150M graphics accelerator (operating with up to 1071MB of available Video RAM)

Dimensions: 13.1″ x 9.3″ x 1.5″ and weighs about 5.2 pounds.

This notebook performs wonderfully. I have had next to no lag while performing a number of general operations like multitasking a number of web pages and operating some of Microsoft's office programs. It also handles gaming quite well for a notebook. The 14.1″ screen is clear and crisp with a nice glossy finish. It doesn't easily wash out and is fairly resistant to glare. The notebook itself feels sturdy and is remarkably light weighing in at just over 5lbs.

Connectivity:

Integrated Wireless

1 Ethernet port (so that this notebook can be connected to a wired LAN)

3 2.0 USB ports (to connect things like MP3 players, printers and digital cameras)

1 FireWire port (for high speed data transfer between digital camcorders or other PC's)

1 VGA output (a typical monitor connection)

1 S-video output (typically used to connect to projectors or compatible televisions)

1 ExpressCard slot (designed to add peripherals like a Bluetooth adapter or a cellular modem)

2 audio out / 1 mic in

1 IR receiver (for consumer remote controls)

5 in 1 memory card reader (this is used to directly insert solid state memory from mobile devices like digital cameras or cell phones)

1 56K modem port (so that this notebook can dial up an Internet connection)

This notebook is a great option for the standard notebook consumer. If you're just interested in something to surf the Internet, watch movies, listen to music and do work then it's going to please you. If you're looking for something to edit movies or play graphically intensive games then you'll be let down by this notebook. In the end the average online retail price for this notebook is currently $879, which in my opinion is right on target. If you can wait a while we might see some price reductions on this notebook or comparable models when the market ramps up closer to August.

The status of the notebook computer is very different than a few years ago. The technology has evolved and the computers have evolved as well. The computers are no longer extremely big and with limited capabilities when it comes to performance. They are capable of performing various tasks and what is more important is the fact that the computers are getting smaller and lighter but more powerful from a performance point of view. The notebook computers for example are now capable of performing almost the same tasks as the desktop computers while having a reduced size.

The notebooks are getting more and more popular mainly because of their portability. Many people prefer nowadays to buy a notebook computer instead of a desktop computer. They can use the notebook computer both indoors and outdoors for almost the same tasks. The prices of the notebook computes have dropped a lot in the lost period of time and this is another reason for the increase in popularity. Even so there are some people who can’t afford buying a new notebook. These people opt to buy used notebook computers instead.

In what follows I am going to give you some information about the used notebook computers. The truth is that the used notebook computers are not too great and there are various reasons for why I say that. First of all since the notebook computer is used it means that it has been used for at least 12 months. If you didn’t know this, 12 months in the world of the computers is a lot because the technology advances very fast. Components which were powerful one year ago will in most of the cases not be as great now because during this time new and better components have appeared.

If you want to use the notebook computer for very simple tasks then such a computer might be OK for you but most of the people would want a computer which would be able to provide a powerful performance as well and an old one will not be able to do it. Another problem when buying a used computer is the fact that it does not have the warranty. This means that if it gets broken you will have two choices: pay for the repair or throw it away. The owner will tell you how old the computer is but most likely he will not tell you how much damage the computer suffered when it was in his possession.

There are too many risks when buying a used computer. You pay money on outdated technology which might break after a couple of months after the purchase. This was my opinion on the used notebook computers.

Meet the latest Notebook from Panasonic namely the ‘Toughbook 31′ that it’s claimed to the ‘Most Powerful Fully-Rugged Notebook’. The most interesting thing about this Notebook is a full magnesium alloy case that it’s offer up to 6 feet of water and dust protection.

The Panasonic Toughbook 31 Powerful Fully-Rugged Notebook is powered by an Intel Core i3 or i5 Processor, features a 13.1-inch LED-backlit display (running on Radeon HD 5650 graphics) with 1024×768 pixel resolution and Touchscreen capability, up to 8GB of installed RAM, two different of hard drive capacity such as 160 or 250GB as well as 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi support , built-in Bluetooth 2.1 for make connection with other devices and optional 3G also included.

If you’re searching for the best rugged mobile computer to help you for work with richer data in a variety of challenging environments, the checkout the Panasonic Toughbook 31 (price at $3,799) that I am think that it’s a great choice for you .

After owning 3 different kinds of laptop computers over the last 8 years I have to say that the most aggravating part of owning one is the battery and battery charging system. One of them has gone through 3 batteries so far. Another one, the jack inside the laptop where the power supply connects to is intermittent. It is intermittent to the point of not being able to be used to charge the battery unless the cord is held in place by hand. I wish there was a better way to handle battery charging.

After a frustrating morning of holding a cable in place to charge a laptop up while trying to type – I gave up for the day with that laptop. I then did a search for an external laptop battery charger on the web. I figured that there must be something out there by now. Here is what I found:

There are a few companies that make external laptop battery chargers. These are the types of chargers that you take the battery out of your laptop and connect it to a charger without using your laptop computer at all to charge the battery. This is the type of thing I was looking for. The prices range from several hundreds of dollars to under $70. I did a search on buy.com and shopping.com but did not find a really good price, even eBay had some pricey chargers. The best price I found was from one of the manufacturers themselves at jcbarn.com They had the battery charger at a price that I found reasonable at $65 They have a very wide range of external battery chargers for all different brands of laptop computers.

What I plan on doing is going completely wireless with my laptops. I'll buy another battery for each of them and external battery chargers to match. That way I'll be using a battery while one is charging then I can swap them out as needed. I sincerely hope that it will solve my laptop battery problems.

I believe xp does not support SATA automatically. This is probably what is happening. Download and install nlite to help you slipstream the SATA/RAID drivers you need. If your laptop doesn’t have a SATA hard drive, then I don’t know what else it could be.

Picking out a laptop for college is a little more tricky then high school; you have more things to consider and price is usually at the top of the list. Before you do anything you have to write down your lists of needs and wants and yes, there is a difference between them. Some things to consider are: what classes will you be taking, with you be doing any technical drawing or CAD applications, will you have access to WiFi, is it mainly going to be used for word processing and do you need to invest in something with a larger than normal screen? We spent a lot of time going over laptop options and made more than a few visits to local office supply and computer stores. Unless you take a notebook with you and write down your personal take on each of them, you are going to get thoroughly confused in the process. Don't be swayed by slick talking sales clerks or lured in my a low price that is only attainable with rebates. Go in with a budget and stick to it.

Name: Acer Aspire
Median Price: $549.00 to $649.99
Screen: 15.4″
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium
Hard Drive: 250 GB
Perks: Built in webcam and microphone on the inside top of the screen, Intel Centrino Core Processor, 802.11 wireless, media card reader, quiet keyboard, sleep function when lid is closed, CD play buttons, power saving, Energy Star compliant, front port jacks and DVD burner.
Cons: Hinge of laptop started making a squeaking noise after three weeks, issue with screen glare, needs cooling pack for bottom.

Name: HP AMD Turion
Median Price: $549.99 to $629.99
Screen: 15.4″
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium
Hard Drive: 200 GB
Perks: Polished metal interior, no glare screen, built in webcam, strong graphics processing, thin design, large mouse pad, front port jacks, media card reader, easy to see power level for battery.
Cons: Needs a cooling pack for the bottom, shorter than expected battery time, 200 GB drive is lower than standard norm.

Name: Toshiba Satellite
Median Price: $650.00 – $739.99
Screen: 15.4″
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium
Hard Drive: 320 GB
Perks: DVD burner, built in webcam, 802.11 wireless card, media reader, no glare screen, excellent Toshiba customer service, quiet keyboard, responsive but not overly sensitive mouse pad, Intel Centrino Core Processor, Energy Star compliant.
Cons: Needs cooling pack, most stores offer this at a “sale” price but you have to pay the full price and send in rebates.
Note: For about a hundred dollars more you can get the 17″ screen version

Name: HP Pavilion
Median Price: $679.00 – $729.00
Screen: 15.4″
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium
Hard Drive: 250 GB
Perks: Intel Centrino Core Processor, 802.11 wireless, media card reader, built in webcam, DVD burner, front jacks, Energy Star, easy to use mouse pad, thin body, in store special included free laptop carrier and cooling pack.
Cons: Bad glare from screen, keyboard was a little on the loud side, battery life was less than expected.

Name: Gateway FX
Median Price: $899.00 – $929.00
Screen: 15.4″
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium
Hard Drive: 200 GB
Perks: Thin body, quiet keyboard, built in webcam and microphone, 802.11 wireless card, Intel Centrino Core Processor, media card reader, great for gaming and graphics, DVD burner.
Cons: 200 GB hard drive, overheated in about an hour, mouse pad was lagging.

What do you need to know when shopping for a laptop?

Never bank on getting rebates. They can get lost in the mail, denied for a variety of reasons, take forever to process, not be applicable to the model you purchased, be declined by the manufacturer, be expired. Another thing to keep in mind is if you have a problem with your laptop and need to return it, if you removed the UPC codes you may not be able to make an exchange or return and some stores will subject you to a 10 – 20% restocking fee regardless of the reason.

Consider getting insurance. If you still live with your parents you can ask them about having the laptop insured on their home owners policy. In most States this will only cover theft and you will need to fill out a police report and wait for a claim.

Buy accessories now instead of later. If you think you are going to need an external hard drive, mouse, keyboard or USB drive, get them now when they are on sale rather than later. You might even be able to get one or two of those items for free if you shop around for stores offering in store specials.

Go for function over looks. You might see a great looking laptop that knocks your socks off but looks are not everything. Look at the specs on it, use some of the programs and see if it is going to be something that helps you at school or becomes a burden to use.

You might not know every single class you are taking but it is a safe bet that you will need to have a laptop that can do word processing, printing and spreadsheets. That's all packaged in the software and almost every single laptop that we looked at came with Windows Vista Home Premium although some of them did give you the option to buy the Student version for about a hundred dollars extra.

When shopping for a laptop don't settle for the first thing you see with a low price; if you have to go out and buy add on components for it later in the school year, any saving that you may have made on the initial purchase just went out the window. Think, research and shop around for the best deal possible!

All USB 3.0 devices will be backwards compatible, meaning that they’ll work with USB 2.0 and 1.1 devices, but those devices won’t see the speed increase that USB 3.0-enabled devices will.

USB 3.0 is making its way onto nearly everything that connects via USB, and the early favorite seems to be hard drives, with both LaCie and PQI including USB 3.0 on their new hard drives.

HP, though, is one of the first to actually get a USB 3.0 computer to market, shipping USB 3.0 on Envy 15 laptops that are configured with ATI 5380 graphics and a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, according to CNET. And there are more coming from HP, the business-geared EliteBook will start shipping with USB 3.0 in just a couple of weeks.

Others aren’t far behind, with ASUS having confirmed that it will start shipping laptops with USB 3.0, but HP’s early entry will hopefully set a benchmark, and shift others into overdrive to both include and support the newer, faster technology behind USB 3.0.
